This course presents and analyzes various approaches to information analysis and development of organizational information systems within a system development life-cycle (SDLC), e.g. the waterfall, concentric, Agile, Scrum, DevOps, and prototyping approaches. Topics include strategic planning for SDLC, front-end and back-end phases of SDLC, project management, CASE methodologies, full-stack programming, Agile, Scrum, DevOps, and balancing user, organizational, and technical considerations.

2. Integrating IT Services

This course focuses on ways of designing an integrated enterprise architecture. The course explains the different forms of corporate information systems and their interaction. Mainframe systems and Cloud will be the focus of the architecture. While in the past, mainframe systems were often self-contained, in current systems, it is more likely that such systems are part of an overall architecture including many smaller hardware devices and operating systems. The participant will learn about the building blocks of current enterprise architectures, and then will learn how to connect them to solve the problems of large companies.

3. Fundamentals of SW Engineering

Introduces software engineering from a quantitative—analytic and metrics-based—point of view. Become acquainted with software life-cycle process models (e.g., SDLC, full-stack programming, Agile, DevOps, Scrum) from those demanded by very large projects, to the lightest in extreme programming. 4. SW Estimation & Measurement

The purpose of this course is to prepare participants with the essential considerations for software estimation and measurement. The focus is on applying proven methods, tools, techniques and models that have been shown to demonstrate value to the software estimation and measurement process to both IT and non-IT stakeholders. The important techniques such as analogy, top-down, bottom-up, and expert judgment will be covered. The use of models for developing estimates, performing “what-if” analysis, bounding risks, and conducting a variety of trade studies will also be highlighted, as will the metrics that can be used to pinpoint status and assess progress. The course uses a variety of examples, case studies, and hands-on exercises to develop estimating skills, knowledge and abilities, including the use of actual cost model cases developed using the public domain COCOMO II model, to highlight their use and value to the developer. Participants will leave the course fully prepared to develop or validate a software estimate, assess their status, and progress and predict whether or not they will be delivered on-time and on budget, as well as meet the project functional requirements.

5. SW Requirements Analysis

One of the least understood and most difficult phases in software development, requirements acquisition is an especially high hurdle because stakeholders are often unclear about objectives. Learn how to identify stakeholders and how to elicit and verify their requirements for new or extended software products. Introduces analysis and modeling as the first steps in software design. Receive a though understanding of quality assurance. A case-history and project-oriented course, exploiting industry-standard software tools.

6. SW Testing and Quality Assurance

Effective software testing is the hallmark of trustworthy software systems. In this course, participants learn about the various modes of testing needed for quality software systems, including:

1. Introduction/Overview of IT Project Management

Basic tools and concepts defined by the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) published by the Project Management Institute (PMI®) plus other generally accepted practices for project excellence are introduced. The emphasis is on understanding and analyzing the inter-dependencies among the core processes for initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and terminating projects. The dynamics of managing unique temporary endeavors within the context of routine permanent organizations are critically evaluated. Industry examples demonstrate and reinforce effective use of learned concepts by course participants. The course also describes more agile approaches to managing IT initiatives with a focus on software development projects to accommodate the dynamic and changing aspects of IT projects.

This course or its equivalence is a prerequisite for all other Project Management courses.

2. Strategic Perspectives in IT Project and Program Management 

Candidates will receive a theoretical and practical perspective to appreciate the implications generated by the introduction of effective and efficient project management into modern organizations for strategic IT initiatives, where IT is having a profound impact on every business. Project Management Game: Challenge of Egypt (optional)

This 1-day business simulation is a dynamic business simulation in which IT (and preferably non-IT) managers can come together to enhance their project management skills. In this simulation, a group of participants plays the management team responsible for building the pyramids of Egypt.

To do that, the group goes back in time where they meet the Pharaoh. The Pharoh has given his project leader instructions to build a pyramid, so that he can make the journey to the hereafter along with everything that is precious to him. The project leader finds a suitable location for the pyramid, a quarry for the stone, and a village for the workers. He also arranges the infrastructure between these locations. It is the teams’ responsibility to get the job done. The team will have to set up a project organization, analyze risks, and create a plan.

During the four rounds of this interactive workshop, the most important aspects of best practices for project management will be experienced. This is done interactively. The building process for a pyramid will actually be simulated letting the participants experience the control elements of effective/efficient project management. During the building process all team members have a role within the project management environment. The project team is given the task of building the pyramid within a fixed time. The process is affected by real-life events that actually occurred during that period of time. Throughout the building process there will be several reflection moments to learn from the Egyptians and from the teams own experience. At the end of the project, when the pyramid has been built, there will be a project evaluation and all the instructive points will be described.

Companies value the ability to analyze data/information to gain insights as they compete to rapidly and accurately advise internal and external decision-makers. With the future of IT being driven by these technologies (in marketing, R&D, HR, legal…), every organization should be obtaining demonstrable value from implementing an effective data driven innovation strategy where big data means bigger and better decisions. Every organization needs to have a team of effective data scientists.
In addition to formidable process improvements, the focus is now on revenue generating initiatives. IBM CEO Virginia Rometty said that information will be to the 21st century what steam, electricity, and fossil fuel were to prior centuries.
A recent IBM MIT Sloan Management report found that companies that harness the power of big data and analytics outperform those that do not by 220%. To be successful in deploying BI, candidates require enriched expertise in data management, statistics, modeling techniques and tools, and the industry they are working in; they need to understand how to move from Big Data to Smart Data.
Addressing the 4-V’s of Big Data have become fundamental for data scientists:
  • Volume: The integration of existing enterprise data with Social, Mobile, Cloud, and Internet of Things is driving the data explosion
  • Variety: Capturing all of the structured and unstructured data that pertains to the enterprise decision making processes
  • Velocity: The rate at which data arrives and the time required to process and understand it

Furthermore, IT for all companies has traditionally focused on building reports about events that happened in the past. Big data and business analytics is now shifting the focus of IT. Instead of just looking backward, IT can develop (and the business can leverage) the capabilities for looking forward. To be able to take advantage of these new capabilities, organizations must recognize that the conventional model requiring data in the warehouse to be ‘clean’ and ‘structured’ must change. Organizations have to get comfortable with the idea that data can (and will be) ‘messy’ and unstructured’, and that they will have to use external data sources (which have typically not been pulled into enterprise data warehouses) in new innovative ways. The complexity of this requirement is compounded by the traditional exponential growth of data in concert the growth of data brought by the internet of things.

Many studies (like the one on the left) forecast a significant global shortfall in the big data skills necessary to deploy these new capabilities. In the United States alone, McKinsey projects a shortfall of 140,000 to 190,000 by 2018. The lack of these skilled professionals is limiting the ability of business to derive value from big data. This talent shortfall is largely due to the shortage of effective university, professional, and executive education programs designed to produce the talent necessary to fill the growing demand for every type of big data professional.

Recognizing that these initiatives demand more than just technical skills is imperative. Bad data leads to bad decisions. This has been most recently demonstrated in the dramatically missed projections for the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. This course follows the Analytics Applications and Techniques Course, and will focus on the hands-on application of data mining, text mining, cognitive computing, artificial intelligence, and big data products/tools/software in solving real world business and operational problems. A variety of popular knowledge discovery software products (both professional/industrial and free/open source) will be used to demonstrate a wide range of interesting application scenarios. This course will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the tradeoffs that exist in identifying, designing and implementing knowledge discovery projects. It concentrates on building hands-on skills to apply appropriate techniques to discover hidden knowledge in corporate and external databases (both structured and unstructured) to help managers make near-real time intelligent strategic and operational business decisions. The main goal of this course is to provide candidates with not only a well-grounded understanding and appreciation of the methods and methodologies but also help candidates develop hands-on experiences in applying them to real world problems and data sets.

II. Deploying Blockchain Technologies *

As Blockchain emerges as an essential technology across every industry (well beyond just Bitcoin), with all of the buzzwords flying around it can be difficult to separate Blockchain hype from business reality. This foundational technical course will enable IT candidates to understand the essential concepts of the distributed ledger, relevant Blockchain terminology, real world Blockchain use cases, and technology management considerations for carrying out Blockchain projects.
This course will also explore the concept of anonymous consensus and how it is essential to ensuring that the blocks in a Blockchain contain the single version of the truth, as well as learning the mechanics of Blockchain validation and how consensus can eliminate errors that otherwise require reconciliation. How identities work inside of Blockchain and the dependencies that Blockchain Oracles have on Smart Contracts are covered in detail. 
Specific and generic industry examples and emerging applications and blockchain technologies (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, The Hyperledger Foundation which is actually 6 Blockchain’s including Fabric from IBM, Multichain, EOS, Corda), and approaches for deploying blockchain will be the focus of this course. III. Deploying AI Technologies *

While having a relatively long history, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is still actively evolving to where it is now emerging as an essential technology across every industry. 
This foundational technical course will enable candidates to understand the essential concepts for implementing AI initiatives. Upon completion of this course candidates will be competent in Machine Learning concepts, AI Techniques, Cognitive Computing, and Deep Learning techniques using Python (the open-source software/programming library designed to conduct research and build solutions in machine learning and deep neural network structure; alternative programming languages/products will also be covered).
The focus of this course will be on assimilating the concepts of Machine Learning and Deep Learning with relevant industry specific algorithms, to build artificial neural networks and traverse layers of data abstraction, and to understand the power of data in the candidates’ new role as a Technical AI professional. The concepts of Neural Networks, Artificial Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing and working with libraries like NLTK, MatPlotlib, TFlearn, Keras &Tensorflow, along with current and emerging industry projects, will also be covered. As more companies embrace cloud computing (whether external, private, or hybrid cloud options) they are discovering new ways to more easily deploy, customize, secure, and manage their workloads. Cloud computing was new to the list of key technologies in 2009, when it was ranked seventeenth. In 2010 it jumped to No. 5, and since 2011 it has been ranked second. Most CIOs expect to operate their applications and infrastructures via cloud technologies within the next five years. Over the next three years nearly 65% of the growth in cloud spending will come from companies that make little or no use of the cloud today—and that industries like retail, transportation, industrials and financial services will demand more private and hybrid cloud offerings.
While cloud computing is likely to remain one of the top technologies in the near future, these survey results suggest that while many companies are proceeding to invest in cloud initiatives, it is anticipated that investments will continue to rise. However, the long-term implications remain unclear–analogous to the lack of knowledge about the long-term impact of PCs in the late 1980s.

1. IT Strategy & Resource Management

This course takes a comprehensive IT/CIO perspective of business-IT strategy by addressing the strategic, tactical, and operational roles and responsibilities of IT and non-IT executives in managing IT as a strategic business asset. While the alignment of business and IT is the primary focus, emphasis is placed on the current/emerging issues/opportunities in creating and coordinating the significant Cloud activities necessary to ensure IT’s contribution to the success of the organization. This is done by examining important considerations such as IT governance, IT value, IT processes, IT organizational structure, HR & sourcing, managing emerging technologies, the role of the CIO, and IT-business strategy. By concentrating on ITs strategic responsibilities, in essence this course puts the candidate in the role of the CIO as they build a business strategy that is enabled/driven by IT.

2. Managing Cloud Resources

The objective of this course is to examine cloud computing as a strategy and why business and Information Technology (IT) need to be working closely together in creating it. Because cloud computing is different from our past IT experiences, the lectures will identify and discuss the strategic and operational changes needed to create and drive success. To be successful in deploying Cloud, organizations need to understand how to move from existing technologies/architectures/infrastructure, and more importantly, how to obtain the value from these important initiatives. Integrating Cloud with other emerging technologies (e.g. Business Analytics, mobile, social media/networks, security, internet of things, crowd-sourcing) driven by a more dynamic business environment is essential. By taking the course, participants will gain a clear understanding of the strategic issues around governance, sourcing, legal and contracts, etc. that they need to consider, why these issues are important, and how to address them to construct a successful and workable cloud computing strategy.

3. Enterprise Architecture

Enterprise Architecture (EA) is the analysis and design of an enterprise in its current and future states from a strategy, business and technology perspective. This course provides an exposure to the foundational concepts of enterprise architecture as a strategic planning mechanism for cloud computing. The course will provide students with the foundational knowledge needed to understand how EA serves to integrate strategic, business, and technology planning methods, which support enterprise-wide information technology resource development and governance in the context of business requirements. This course is designed to cover the theory, frameworks, principles and best practices of enterprise architecture then move to a practical, comprehensive approach to delivering the subject matter involving real-world case studies and project discussions.

4. Implementing the Cloud Data Center (e.g., security, systems integration)

This course provides an introduction to the concepts and principals needed to build and support an enterprise cloud data center. Candidates will investigate the emerging technologies (e.g. Business Analytics, mobile, social media/networks, security, internet of things, crowd-sourcing) and how they can be integrated, infrastructure deployments, organizational approaches and operational considerations that underlay managing the cloud data center. It will delve into how a cloud data center differs from a traditional one. In additional the course will look at methods for orchestrating public and private clouds, and how the cloud can be leveraged to delivery more cost efficient infrastructure and IT services to the enterprise. 
Topics covered include: Cloud infrastructure principals as they relate to a deployment, emerging cloud technology standards, building scalable cloud networks, changing data center operations models and best practices, The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), emerging Cloud technologies, integrating technologies, managing for scale and elasticity, leveraging hybrid public and private cloud models, cloud readiness skills, develops concepts and how to apply them in support of a cloud, and finally cloud data center deployment life cycles.

5. Engineering Applications for the Cloud

The purpose of this course is to prepare candidates with the strategic, tactical, and operational competencies necessary to derive and carry out strategies, plans, and processes for migrating existing applications to the Cloud and how to build new applications that run effectively and efficiently in the Cloud.
When deriving strategies and plans for migrating to Cloud (whether insourced, outsourced, or hybrid) an area often not anticipated or understood is how to leverage this important infrastructure with the existing application portfolio and the anticipated future application portfolio. The purpose of this course is to provide the underpinnings of best practices that will enable the attendees to derive and deploy a successful Cloud applications strategy including howto build new and integrate existing applications, considerations for managing/leveraging data, how to organize activities and tasks of people and systems systematically into effective business processes, and how to evaluate cloud service offerings.
